buttsketch:
holla to polly and josh and afu for dinner on saturday after TCAF
you guys are the coolest (`u´)///
Aah! This is one of the coolest things I could come home from TCAF to. Afu is actually around the same height as me, though I did expect him to be shorter based on one of his self-portraits.
Thanks, Alice! I had a great time finally meeting you & hangin’ out with everyone!
Spera will be at TCAF!
Afu Chan, Kyla Vanderklugt, Polly Guo and I can be found at table 258, located on the upper floor in the Owlkids section. We will have copies of both Vol. 1 & 2, the Glass Flowers Special, free postcards and one or two surprises.
If you’re looking to score even more signatures for Vol. 2, Kris Mukai will be at table 244, while Roman Muradov can be located in the Wowee Zonk Small Press Showcase.
TCAF takes place this weekend during May 11th (9am-5pm) and 12th (11am-5pm) at the Toronto Reference Library. Admission is free.
See the full map here.
Here’s a look at the cover of the Glass Flowers Special, a brand-new Spera comic we’ve put together for TCAF. Within is an 8-page comic illustrated by Afu Chan, along with pin-ups by Kyla Vanderklugt and Polly Guo. I should warn you now that this comic is very much influenced by fighting games.
Afu, Kyla, Polly and myself will be tabling together with a whole bunch of Spera comics for sale. Learn more about the Toronto Comics Arts Festival here. TCAF is a free festival filled with some of the best creators in independent comics.
inkdrinker:
nooo internet, sorry I only have the crappy shop camera for this, but this book is just TOO GOOD not to post about! SPERA VOLUME 2 YOU ARE AMAZING. I am in this volume, as well as a bunch of other badasses. I especially think Kyla Vanderklugt and Anna Wieszczyk nailed it! Really, everyone did a stellar job, and Archaia has really been stepping it up quality-wise with their hardbacks recently. Go pick this book up at your local comic shop ASAP!
PS add tags as you see fit!
Julia Scott takes you on a tour of the new book!
The sixth and final issue of Spera: Volume II is now available on comiXology from Archaia!
This issue is another shorts collection, and includes:
She Saw It Then by Julia Scott
The Starless illustrated by Anna Wieszczyk, lettered by Ed Brisson and written by me
Free Verse by Roman Muradov
Adel’s Hammer illustrated by Polly Guo and written by me
Adel’s Hammer is a 15-page colour comic originally produced as a black & white special for TCAF 2011. It introduces Adel, an important new character who will join the main cast in Vol. 3. Adel is designed by Afu Chan.
Michael Dialynas and Polly Guo (and possibly Roxie Vizcarra as well) will be signing Spera Vol. II autograph cards at NYCC! Find them at the Archaia booth (#1520) during these days and hours:

Sat, 10/13
10:30-11:30am, Table 4
Sun, 10/14

By the way, **the first two people to send me photos of their signed autograph cards will win a signed copy of Vol. II whenever I get the books in!**. Just send the photo to josh.will.tierney@gmail.com.
I can’t afford to go this year, unfortunately, but I hope everyone stops by to meet Mike, Polly and Roxie, all awesome people & artists who have been involved with Spera pretty much since the beginning.
Mike was part of the original collaboration, illustrated Fetch Quest (which appears in Vol. II), and has a major role in an upcoming Spera project. Polly Guo created this pin-up and illustrated Adel’s Hammer, which was first a black & white comic for TCAF and will now be in full colour for Vol. II. Roxie created this pin-up, which appears in Vol. II as well.
Archaia will also be selling copies of Spera: Volume I, so be sure to check it out if you haven’t already!
